About Us

The name "Bourda Green" has a nice ring to it, and, for Guyanese it is a familiar one.

The name comes from the name of the "open air" portion of a famous market in Guyana where vendors display for sale, all their fresh vegetable produce that had arrived hours before from the farms on which they were grown.

Bourda Green Caribbean Grocery is a minority-owned family business, which was founded in the year 2003 as a Georgia Registered Corporation.

It is the brainchild of the husband and wife team of Patrick and Paula Sanford, who both have an obsession with quality products, impeccable standards and friendly customer service.

The idea to start the food store was born out of the perceived need for a well-stocked West Indian food store in Dekalb County that would offer customers a wide choice of multi-cultural foods, and which would afford them the opportunity to enjoy and re-live “the good ole time cooking of yester-year”.

For this couple, this kind of business is nothing new, as before they came to the United States, back in their native Guyana, they successfully ran a similar business for several years which was just as well received as is the present store.

Their joint effort is further amplified by the daily presence of their son Gavin, who is sometimes called upon to work the store either single-handedly or teamed-up with his parents, Paula and/or Patrick.

This strongly-knit family team has in a very short period developed Bourda Green Caribbean Grocery into the County’s/ State's leading Caribbean food store providing for the needs of its regular customers and visitors alike.
